Suzanne Pond, 61, of Peck has been charged with assault with intent to murder and assault with a dangerous weapon. SPEAKER TWP. — A 61-yearold Peck woman was arraigned July 31 on charges resulting from the stabbing of her 43-yearold son-in-law during a family dispute, the third such case in Sanilac County in a month.

The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Dept. said the stabbing occurred in the early morning hours of July 30 at a home in the 6500 block 6500 block of Paldi Road.

Suzanne Pond was charged with felony charges of assault with intent to murder and assault with a dangerous weapon in Sanilac County District Court. She remains in custody on a $500,000 cash/surety bond.

The sheriff’s office reported that Sanilac Central Dispatch received a 911 call from the Paldi Road residence around 12:10 a.m. regarding a family dispute involving a man who had just been stabbed by his mother-inlaw.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the home and were advised that the 43-year-old Peck area man was being transported to Marlette Regional Hospital in a private vehicle for medical treatment.

The initial investigation found the victim’s 19-year-old daughter provided lifesaving first aid by applying pressure to the stab wound.

Deputies secured the scene and contacted sheriff’s detectives who responded to the scene and Marlette Hospital to interview the victim and witnesses. The man was later transported to a Saginaw area hospital for further treatment.

According to Det./Sgt. Nate Smith, the victim’s 61-year-old mother-in-law was arrested at the scene, and the weapon was recovered without further incident. She was lodged in the Sanilac County Jail at the time with no cash bond.

The incident remains under investigation. The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Croswell Police and Marlette Police Departments.

Sanilac County has been the scene of several domestic violence incidents recently that resulted in death.

A 58-year-old Marlette Township woman, Donna Rager, was charged July 20 in the open murder of her husband, 64-yearold Richard Rager, after he was found dead in their home in the 4500 block of Cooper Road. She was also charged with tampering with evidence, carrying a firearm while committing a felony, and concealing a death.

A 24-year-old Croswell man, Justin Bonin, also has been charged with open murder in the July 10 stabbing death of his 63-year-old father, Richard Bonin, at their Hannah Avenue home in Croswell.
