Big win for Wolverines

The Michigan Wolverines pick up a 49-3 blowout win over Western Michigan in football Saturday.

The new quarterback, Shea Patterson, tossed three touchdown passes in his Big House debut. Karan Higdon ran for 156 yards as the offensive line opened up some huge holes. The victory, although much needed, came against an overmatched Western Michigan team. The Broncos have dug huge deficits in their first two games and it’s tough to battle back from that against good teams. The Broncos will head home and host Delaware State.

The Wolverines will be five touchdown favorites over the SMU Mustangs at the Big House. The kickoff is set for 3:30 pm and will be on the Big Ten Network if you are not Ann Arbor bound. Michigan will roll the Mustangs on Saturday and should be in hand by halftime.

The Michigan State Spartans suffered a tough 16-13 loss to the Arizona State Sun Devils. The Spartans carried a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter only to watch it evaporate. The kicker from ASU, Brandon Ruiz, kicked a 28-yard field goal as the clock ticked to zero. The Spartans were inside the ASU 10-yard line three times and came away with two field goals and an interception. The ball game was lost in those three series, to be brutally honest. How about this little tidbit on MSU? The Spartans are now 1-13 in regular-season games out West! Stunning! The Spartans need to quit going West. The Sun Devils are now 10-0 against the Big Ten at home. If I am the Sun Devils, I schedule all the Big Ten games I can at home. The Spartans have a bye Saturday and then open up Big Ten play next Saturday at Indiana.

Silence is golden

The Tigers television announcers, Mario Impemba and Rod Allen, are taking the rest of the season off. The two were in Chicago and a physical altercation occurred. The story has really yet to be told, but it will come out sooner or later. These two have been in the booth for 17 years! The two commentators have remained silent and I believe have been told to remain quiet. The rest of the season will be handled by Matt Sheppard and Kirk Gibson and maybe Craig Monroe taking Gibson’s spot once in a while. A strange situation to be sure. The more important question is, who will it be in the booth in 2019?

How about the return of Justin Verlander Monday night to Comerica Park? Justin received a huge ovation, as he should after all his great years on the hill in Detroit. The performance was his usual, as he went seven innings and allowed six hits and two earned runs, while striking out 10 Tiger batters. Houston beat the Tigers 3-2 in a good ballgame. The Tigers are playing out the season here in September and looking for the exit. It’s been a tough go in 2018 and my prediction of them losing 100 games will fall short, and I am glad. I did not want to see the Tigers lose 100 games. How many days to spring training? The baseball playoffs are getting closer and should be tremendous.

Beyond laughable

The Lions’ performance on Monday night is darned laughable for the entire country to watch! I am currently looking at a 48-17 score and total Jets domination! It’s an absolute embarrassing performance and I don’t care if they comeback to win! (They didn’t, by the way). Matt Stafford is once again running for his life! The fact he has tossed four interceptions, which were brutal passes, is beyond me! How long will this coach last in Detroit? I will give it less than two years and 0-16 could be on the horizon once again in Motown! Hey, don’t laugh; it’s ugly Lions’ fans! The defense has been atrocious along with the special teams play, too! The fact that nothing has changed in Detroit is downright pitiful! I can’t believe these fans have not left the building yet! I would be on I-94 and headed West on my way home.
